How does a WiFi QR code work?
It encodes your network name, security type and password in the standard “WIFI:” format. When a phone camera reads it, the phone offers to join the network in one tap — no app and nothing to download.
Is my WiFi password safe in a QR code?
The password is stored in plain text inside the code, so anyone who scans it can join your network. Print it only for people you would give the password to anyway; for a café or office, point guests at a separate guest network instead of your main one.
Why doesn’t my WiFi QR code work on some phones?
Usually it’s an accented or non-Latin network name that wasn’t encoded as UTF-8, the wrong security type (WPA vs WEP), or a hidden network not flagged as hidden. This tool encodes UTF-8 and lets you set both, so those cases are handled.
Do I need an app to scan it?
No. The built-in camera on modern iPhone (iOS 11+) and Android phones reads WiFi codes directly. A few older phones need a QR-scanner app or the password typed by hand.
