How to Make a QR Code for Spotify

How to Make a QR Code for Spotify

Spotify has its own "Spotify Codes", but they only scan inside the Spotify app's camera — useless on packaging or a poster where you cannot assume someone has Spotify open. A real QR code, made from the share link, opens in any phone camera and takes people straight to your track, album, artist, playlist or podcast. Here is how to make one, and why it beats a Spotify Code for print.

Spotify Code vs a real QR code

A Spotify Code is the little bar of dots you see under cover art in the app. It works, but only when scanned with the search-bar camera inside Spotify. Point a normal phone camera at it and nothing happens. A QR code is the opposite: any camera reads it, and it opens the link even for someone who does not have the app installed (the browser or app store handles it). For anything printed or public, the QR code is the reliable choice.

Step 1: copy the Spotify share link

On the thing you want to share — a song, album, artist page, playlist or podcast episode — tap the three dots (…), then Share, then Copy link. You get a URL like open.spotify.com/…. That link works everywhere, in any browser and app.

Step 2: turn the link into a QR code

Paste that link into a generator and download the code. For anything you print, use a dynamic code: the printed square stays the same, but you can change where it points — from a single to the full album on release day — and see how many people scanned it. Create one free, paste your Spotify link, and download it.

Point it at the right thing

  • A single track — push one song from a poster or story.
  • Artist page — one code that always shows your latest.
  • Playlist — a mood or a set for an event or venue.
  • Podcast — a show or a specific episode.

If you want one code to offer several of these at once, weigh a link hub — see QR code vs link in bio.

Where to put it

  • Merch, vinyl and CD inserts — a scan-to-listen on the sleeve. See QR codes on packaging.
  • Gig posters and flyers — hear the artist before the show.
  • Your other platforms — cross-promote from Instagram or YouTube.
  • Business cards — for musicians, producers and podcasters.

Frequently asked questions

Can a normal phone camera scan a Spotify Code?

No. Spotify Codes only work with the camera inside the Spotify app. To be scannable by any phone, use a QR code made from the Spotify share link.

How do I get the link to a song or playlist?

Tap the three dots on the track, album, artist, playlist or episode, choose Share, then Copy link. You get an open.spotify.com URL to turn into a QR code.

Will the QR code work if someone doesn't have Spotify?

Yes. The link opens in the browser or prompts the app store, so a scanner without the app still reaches your music instead of hitting a dead end.

Can I track how many people scan my Spotify QR code?

Make it as a dynamic code and yes — scan counts by time and device. A plain static code cannot be tracked.

Can I change where it points after printing?

Only if it is dynamic. A static code fixes the link forever; a dynamic one keeps the same printed code but lets you redirect it — from a pre-save link to the released track, for example.
